Insatiable Minds
Suddenly our hero, Overlords, brought down his sword with a fieceness upon his moral enemy, Nemisis. Yet Nemisis was no one for giving in, as he struck back. Just as these two brooding combatants were about to settle their final confrontation, a voice in the distance catches the attention of our hero. "Bastion! It's time for dinner!" Mom said. As I stopped swinging I knew the battle was not over. Tomorrow, action would pick up where it left off.
Maybe the world wasn't ready for a bouncing and laughing baby boy. Or a baby who was stronger than his mom, or even one with such energy and creativity.
Oh well, the world got me anyway. I learned quickly that legs were better used for speed. ZOOM! Battled real life Nemisis, the older brother. I kept having lunch at other people's houses without them knowing it. Big Bend National Park is great camping during the winter time. Moved and became an older brother to a girl named Rach all on a warm May day. Uncontrollable and obnoxious until I saw myself on video. Never will be the same again.
Sister turns 3 and gets a sickness with something I never heard of before. Cancer. Once thought that 'them' were out to get me. Mom was always at the hospital, never home. I always argued with my best friend and Brother-Nemisis. The swing set, Overlords, and Nemisis gave way to this neat thing called drawing. Loved Great-grandma's hot, delicious tortillas and tamales, and talking with good ole Great Uncle George-on the days he could remember me. I turned a decade and no one came to the party. Instead got a surprise. I saw my life flash before my eyes until my cousin swam past and saved me. Visited Grandma Claire in Bawston. Never left the country though. Sister gets the sickness again and Mom disappears again. Parties at the hospital seem nice. Especially the free food part. Started going to this summer camp with other kids who were sick. Where everyone is a STAR. Keep being put in these 'horizons' classes. Brother graduates. Has it been that long? Excitement builds as I enter the halls of junior-hi, only to become the darkest of my years.
Go to Orlando to see a big silver globe and rat for a week. Rach gets the sickness yet again the next week. This time a miracle is in order. Mom and Dad start disappearing to hospital more often than usual. Now left with arch-rival brother. Grandpa dies and go to funeral, say good-bye, yet he never looked dead. A pair of large eyes spark an idea for a story. I realize other people have feelings. Solution to sickness is found; they need bone marrow. Brother is now Overlords; he graciously gives the marrow to Rach. Left family-less for a few months, but Overlords saves me. Rach returns and illness doesn't. Enter the aging halls of high school. Things begin anew.
Had an English class minus the teacher. My antagonist brother invites me to come with him to a basketball game had an antagonisticly great time. Go to this thing called Confirmation. Hear brother is going to leave for the Navy. Suddenly feel regretful. Finish Confirmation, hear of a retreat camp. My LIFE* changes forever.
Suddenly our hero, Overlords, brought down his sword with a fieceness upon his moral enemy, Nemisis. . . . A voice in the distance catches the attention of our hero. "Bastion! It's time for dinner!" Mom said. I put down my pencil.
