The Ledgend Dick Trickle
Dick "I hit the Wall" Trickle is a grizzly driver that is still the most down to earth driver ever. Being from the north we don't get to see as much racing, but I've seen Dick win many times at different tracks. They say Dick has won over 1,000 races in the midwest. I can say he has won about 6 out of 11 I've seen him in locally. The first picture is Dick winning another MN Miller 300 in 1992, its the only ASA race in 1997 Dick drove, probably because he has about a 50% winning record since 1978. The second picture is the car he sat on the pole at a Road Course in an ASA race in 94. (No really Dick on the Pole on the ROAD !) He still works on his car, signs autographs and talks about a small track in MN called Elko that he hasn't raced at in years. The final picture is the latest ride in 90 car at Darlington in 96. Short Tracks are Dick's strong suite, but Atlanta and Dayton have seen some of his better runs in Winston Cup. He took the unsponsored 75 Butch Mock car to a 5th at Dayton and has had two fifths in Atlanta, including his second ride in the Miller 84 car in his so called Rookie Year. I say so called because at a mire 46 years old and those 1,000 races won in ASA/ARTGO he wins the Winston Cup Rookie of the Year. Its been great watching Dick's in car cameras over the years. They show everyone else sitting back on a Sunday drive, then they show Dick sawing at the wheel for his life. After hitting another wall they switch to Dicks in car to show him lighting a cigarette waiting for a tow back to the garage. Like Darrell Waltrip says when the ask how Dick can run a Bush race and then jump into the Winston Cup car. Darrell says just give him a cup of Coffee and a Cigarette and he'll be ready to run. Good luck Dick, you might be able to have a smoke in Victory Lane on the Cup tour one day. Stranger things have happened.
