Crazy time... PART O
"One femtosecond is to a second like
one second is to 32.6 million years.
It's a very small amount of time."
Sarah A. Gerhardt, Ph.D.
Electronic voices barely discernible amid
white noise emanating either from her own
mindgland or a commercial transmission:
"STAR LIGHT FIVE AT 3:33."
Continuing override resonant echoes:
"Twelve hour interval... Outside, forming a
leafy theater of illumination, diffused sunbeams
penetrate the narrow space between ordinary red
brick, simulated wood suburban houses, as five
curious people assemble to gaze upon the most
perfect spot in the universe... which on this
day at precisely 3:33 in the afternoon will
become the absolute best possible manifestation
of space/time in this or any other universe...
likewise, out of every sentient being who's ever
existed -- past, present, or future -- these five,
singular witnesses are perfectly suited, chosen
in fact, to be here, now..."
Not so the troubled woman upstairs, PJ, nervously
pacing a ceramic floor, touching her imperfect
forehead against a warm, artificially intelligent
window. Her shout is muffled:
"Hey, what're you guys doing in my yard?!"
Synchronistically, given the sheer oddity of "a five"
also existing in or out of PJ's own imagination, it's
a bit unnerving when they uniformly look up at
her from the soon to be premier coordinates
of this or any other universe.
"It's 3:30 PM. Three minutes to go. An eternity."
"Monday, July 20, 2889... Common Era...
Summer Solstice Eve. The Haunted World."
No one could've imagined the late 29th century
having anything in common with the early 21st...
...geosynchronous, orbiting platforms above the
city dome -- similarly monitoring the impending
moment below -- a verdant green orb, terraformed
rust landscape, second link in a networked daisy
chain extending beyond a gas giant's icy, ocean
moon, where a neighborhood's a neighborhood,
even if only robots dare to tread there, but
evolved corporate primates still get twitchy
about scary, unknown paradigms especially
back on "the haunted world."
She doesn't know yet who she is, believing her
seventy plus years more significantly defining
than her first thirty five years or seventeen
and a half seconds.
"What are the odds of even being here in the
first place?" PJ asks herself, thinking about
her ex husband, Malak, downstairs painting in
his own mind, wondering how in the world he
managed to marry and divorce her three times
in almost a quarter century.
"Who are you guys?!" she yells again at the
five upturned faces of eerie diverse visage,
equidistant, standing around the easement
between one house and another, poised on
the edge of something terribly unbelievable
or indescribably mundane.
Clearly, it's a moot point at this stage.
The Reincarnation of Austin Osman Spare ...
Her ex-husband, Malak Taus,* once considered it a remote
possibility that he was the aesthetic, magickal heir to
Austin Osman Spare, a minor British artist and occultist
who died in 1956. Jackson Pollock, the alcoholic, raging
abstractionist who also died in '56, seemed an alternate
'previous life' possibility given Malak's own self-destructive
tendencies aligned more with Pollock's depressive, explosive
demon than Spare's introspective genius for graphical detail.
Either way, his lack of talent, drive, and success mercifully
eliminated any such naive conceits. On the other hand, if
karma was in charge, he could never entirely rule out the
osmotic possibility that perhaps failure was growth. ORIGINALITY? MEDIOCRITY?
His early pen and ink drawings held weird similarities
with Spare's own philosophical, occult indulgences.
Metempsychosis, or reincarnation, seemed as unlikely
as Carl Jung's collective unconscious, and so in
proverbial neuroscientific due course, 'reality' did
what 'reality' does best, gradually resetting navigational
coordinates, directing his path via natural selection
into his beloved former spousal unit, the BFSU, PJ,
Patsy Jane, who, right now at 3:30 in the afternoon,
was upstairs randomly mouthing paranoid threats at
uncanny trespassers seemingly obsessed with a small,
neglected plot of suburban landscape that would in
exactly three minutes time become the most important,
beautiful, perfect spot in the multiverse. Absolutely.
PJ and Malak didn't know it yet, but their crazy
accommodation with each other -- thrice divorced,
separately sharing the same building on different
floors, benign indifference with a deep seated,
heartfelt love -- was the portal, the quantum mechanical
glue, the gravitational lens that opened the doorway
betwixt and between, allowing the five to manifest
around a patch of nondescript suburbia.
A quirky, serendipitous arrangement to say the least.
Three minutes to go. Pivotal. Malak Taus opens his
front door, steps around the corner, looks up at
PJ's window, at the five, then says:
"No really, who are you guys?"
"WE ARE OWLSLEY," the five reply as one.
"We are DEVO! DEE...EE...VEE...OH!" sings Malak.
"Owsley, huh? Just like that sixties underground
chemist who synthesized acid? THAT Owsley?!"
Sounding like Roy Neary in Close Encounters
of The Third Kind, he ends with:
"What the hell is going on around here?
Who the hell are you people?"
Having a great talent for empathy and circuitously
getting to the heart of any matter, PJ cracks
open her artificially intelligent window pane just
enough to call out:
"Are you sure you don't want to talk to the cops?"
In the time it takes an electron to orchestrate
an impulse to a single neuron in his head, Malak
Taus' aggregate of brain cells relives his entire
convoluted relationship with PJ.
18 years his senior, she had a most remarkable
life; incredibly bright, with a passion for all
things humanist, especially sexuality, leading her
to follow a course in clinical pursuits and degrees.
She became a successful broker, parent, colleague,
friend, doctor, and a gifted therapist. As one of
the pioneers in surrogate work, body work, clinical
sexology, she trained with the best, suffered the
'slings and arrows' as any great woman must, all
the while maintaining a difficult practice, helping
countless individuals, couples, families...
Uncompromisingly hard core, she was as gentle as a
dragon, sweet, loving, wise, resilient, strong, and
Entire books could, should be written about her, yet
probably won't... Her time with Malak was passionate,
lonely, eternal, and merely the briefest of dreams.
Sometimes a soulmate is a loving nightmare, better to
burn away traps and illusions, but dreams endure,
somehow, glowing transfixed in an eternal now, or
until all things must evaporate...
"How wide is NOW?" ask the five, speaking for
the second time, interrupting Malak's silent poetic
reverie spanning nearly a quarter century.
"It's still 3:30," shouts PJ. "Shouldn't it be later?"
I mean, my clock said 3:30 over an hour ago, I think...
What time do you have?"
"Why are you...?" Malak stops, checks his time, looks
around at PJ, the five. "Uh... yeah, it's still 3:30, but why
are we TALKING ABOUT THIS RIGHT NOW!?"
The five appear unfazed.
Malak and PJ are perplexed, senses wide open,
their minds are blank yet still aware, thinking clearly.
What's going on? Some kind of power outage?
Everything seems fine with the power grid.
Subjectively, there's nothing profoundly changed
about the world's interaction with the mindgland
body, right? It's still just 3:30...
The longest three minutes in the history of time, at
3:33 all focus will be on a tiny piece of real estate,
when it comes, radiant, if it comes, the way a yard
can be... bits of detritus, flora and fauna, tree leaves,
bugs, cyclone fencing, chunks of concrete, mineral
and vegetable, brick, wood, rocks and dirt, light
and air... A frozen moment, only three minutes
to go, almost there, an eternity away.
What? Where? Who? Why? When?
A Great Mystery... Now?
Etc... Blah... Blah... blaaaaah...
Meanwhile, back in the 29th century,
an advanced experiment in subatomic
particles engineered a small number
of multiversal pathways altering many
perspectives of direct involvement
changing scenes into those, this, that,
and then, far and away and back again:

[ And Other Totally Irrelevant 'NOTES' Indeed. --MT ]
... "Now I was virtually certain I was about to die.
"As I tried to accept my fate, an even lower portion
of my brain began to transmit more visions and
information. I was 'told' that this new material was
being presented to me because I was dying and
therefore 'safe' to receive these revelations.
These were the secrets reserved for the dying
and the dead, I was informed.
"I could only very dimly perceive the givers of these
thoughts: giant reptilian creatures reposing sluggishly
at the lowermost depths of the back of my brain, where
it met the top of the spinal column. I could only
vaguely see them in what seemed to be gloomy,
dark depths. Then they projected a visual scene
in front of me.
"First they showed me the planet Earth as it was
eons ago, before there was any life on it. I saw an
ocean, barren land, and a bright blue sky.
Then black specks dropped from the sky by the
hundreds and landed in front of me on the barren
landscape. I could see that the 'specks' were
actually large, shiny, black creatures with stubby
pterodactyl-like wings and huge whale-like bodies.
Their heads were not visible to me. They flopped
down, utterly exhausted from their trip, resting
"They explained to me in a kind of thought language
that they were fleeing from something out in space.
They had come to the planet Earth to escape their
enemy. The creatures then showed me how they had
created life on the planet in order to hide within
the multitudinous forms and thus disguise their
presence. Before me, the magnificence of plant and
animal creation and speciation--hundreds of millions
of years of activity--took place on a scale and with
a vividness impossible to describe. I learned that
the dragon-like creatures were thus inside of all
forms of life, including man. They were the true
masters of humanity and the entire planet, they
told me. We humans were but the receptacles and
servants of these creatures. For this reason they
could speak to me from within myself." ...
The Way of the Shaman by Michael Harner
MISHLOVE: It struck me in your description of this
in The Way of the Shaman, that after you had this
drug-induced experience, you met with one of the
elder shamans, a blind man, and described your
experiences to him, which were quite detailed,
visionary types of experiences. And he seemed to
understand exactly where you had been, and what you
HARNER: Yes, that was a critical point for me,
because here I'd had these experiences which were
so incredible, and then I went to the shaman, and
he dealt with them quite matter-of-factly.
There were certain creatures who said certain
things about how they were really running the planet,
and he just smiled and said, "Oh, they're always
saying that," and so on. And I realized, from that
and many other things, that he was quite familiar
with the terrain that I'd been to.

April Fool's Day 2012 ...
Always appreciated the 'Rendlesham Forest' account,
particularly USAF Staff Sergeant James W. Penniston's
'take' on the event, (see below). Had a dream once,
about an 'unmanned' craft hovering a foot or so off
the ground, human skeletal remains associated with
the craft's surface, a lonely desolate feeling permeating
the autonomous, artificially intelligent structure.
Years later another dream, nearly lucid, of red coloured
robots, with enamel-like high gloss skin, preparing a
triangular craft for launch off a vertical assembly
surrounded by trees, the craft also 'unmanned' and
autonomous. Highly evolved artificial intelligence is a
difficult piece of empathy to grasp for the emotional
mental mind of 21st century humans. Last October,
10|15|09, another dream, this time numerous triangular
craft in the sky... Thanks for the input.

Penniston explained he received information
after touching the craft's symbols that chromosomes
were gathered for different reasons, particularly
to help the time travelers because they have a
"physical problem" and Penniston felt sympathy
for them. Penniston said the time travelers have,
Quote: "been coming here for a long time, at least

career, Penniston was awarded 27
military honors as well as becoming
the recipient of a letter of
appreciation from the President.

"During a recent debate with Gary Bekkum, in
which we were discussing some of the Trickster
Tales themes, I presented the notion that we
might be witnessing an 'apparent' ability for
other people's alternate realities to physically
impact on our own realities - not just as
shadowy, informational, meme-corrupted data,
but real-time, sentient entities. This wasn't

Betelgeuse: 600 light-years away
Bellatrix: 245 light-years away
Alnitak: 800 light-years away

List of stars in Orion
Betelgeuse, known alternatively by its Bayer designation
"Alpha Orionis," is a massive M-type red supergiant star
nearing the end of its life. When it explodes it will
even be visible during the day. It is the second brightest
star in the Orion constellation, but was mistakenly
classified as the brightest because it is a semiregular
variable star and was experiencing a tremendous
increase in brightness at the time. It serves as the
"right shoulder" of the hunter it represents (assuming
that he is facing the observer), and is the twelfth
brightest star in the night sky.
[Betelgeuse is approx. 600 light years from Earth].
Bellatrix was designated "Gamma Orionis" by Johann Bayer,
but is known colloquially as the "Amazon Star;" it is the
twenty-second brightest star in the night sky. Bellatrix is
considered a B-type blue giant, though it is too small to
explode in a supernova. Bellatrix's luminosity is
derived from its high temperature rather than its radius,
a factor that defines Betelguese. Bellatrix serves as
Orion's "left shoulder."
[Bellatrix is 245 light-years away.]
Alnitak was designated "Zeta Orionis" by Bayer,
and is the easternmost star in Orion's Belt.
It is a triple star some 800 light years distant,
with the primary star being a hot blue supergiant
and the brightest class O star in the night sky.
Alnilam was named "Epsilon Orionis," a consequence of
Bayer's wish to name the three stars in Orion's Belt
(from north to south) in alphabetical order. Alnilam is
a B-type blue supergiant, despite being nearly twice
as far from the Sun as Mintaka and Alnitak, the other
two belt stars, its luminosity makes it nearly equal
in magnitude. Alnilam is losing mass quickly, a
consequence of its size; approximately four
million years old. [Approx. 1,340 light years away.]
Mintaka garnered the name "Delta Orionis" from Bayer,
even though it is the faintest of the three stars in
Orion's Belt. It is a multiple star system, composed
of a large B-type blue giant and a more massive O-type
white star. The Mintaka system constitutes an eclipsing
binary variable star, where the eclipse of one star
over the other creates a dip in brightness. Mintaka is
the westernmost of the three stars that constitute
Orion's Belt. [915 light years away.]
Saiph was designated "Kappa Orionis" by Bayer, and
serves as Orion's right foot. It is of a similar
distance and size to Rigel, but appears much fainter,
as its hot surface temperature (46,000F or 26,000C)
causes it to emit most of its light in the
ultraviolet region of the spectrum.
[Saiph: A blue supergiant and 720 light-years distant.]
Rigel, which is also known as "Beta Orionis," is a B-type
blue supergiant that is the sixth brightest star in the
night sky. Similar to Betelguese, Rigel is fusing heavy
elements in its core and will pass its supergiant stage
soon (on an astronomical timescale), either collapsing
in the case of a supernova or shedding its outer layers
and turning into a white dwarf. It serves as the left
foot of Orion, the hunter.
[Rigel is 770 light-years from Earth.]
