Etchings

LIP_BLUETHUM.JPG (5218 bytes) "Lipizzans" began as a line-etching and then progressed to the next state by using aqua-tint (to get the black areas) and a lithography crayon (to bring back the gradiations between black and white).  I then printed it on varying Oriental papers, using chine colle to adhere the paper. The finished images vary from an antique parchment look to a brighter, more vivid look.

"Lipizzans" are currently priced at $150.00 US each (edition of 50).  This etching measures approximately 12 X 9 inches unmatted and 17.5 X 15.5 inches with matting.

ORIGINSTHUM.JPG (5795 bytes) "Origins" is a plate I redid after taking a workshop with Sam Savitt.  He is a a legendary artist as well as a wonderful man.   I first etched this plate in acid and then went back and used dry-point (basically scratched directly into the copper plate) to emphasize the horse.  To me"Origins" represents the original horse, perhaps an Andalusian, which is one of the foundation breeds of most modern breeds.

"Origins" is available in a small edition (15 original prints) in various ink colors, including burnt sienna and black, for $150.00 US. The one pictured here is printed with raw sienna.   It measures approximately 12 X 9 inches (unmatted) and is shipped matted to the size of 17.5 X 15.5 inches.
